Chad
Promoting the Rights of Women and Vulnerable Communities in Chad Through a Rights-Based Approach from Local to Global. The project focuses on addressing human rights violations, promoting sustainable livelihoods, empowering civil society, and fostering gender equality.
The project targets refugees and women, aiming to raise awareness of their rights, advocate for policy reforms, and enhance the capacity of civil society organizations to hold authorities accountable. The goal is to empower targeted communities, especially women, to achieve sustainable livelihoods and better access to their fundamental rights.
Activities include supporting income-generating projects, vocational training, advocating for policy changes, and promoting women's rights through education and advocacy. This phase builds on previous successes, such as improved access to land for refugees and the adoption of asylum law, to further empower marginalized groups and promote gender justice.
The "Promoting the Rights of Women and Vulnerable Communities in Chad" project is a transformative initiative designed to address systemic inequalities, enhance livelihoods, and promote human rights for refugees, returnees, and marginalized women. Operating in Chad’s Logone Oriental, Moyen-Chari, and Ouaddai provinces, the project combines advocacy, capacity building, and economic empowerment to create a lasting impact. With a budget of CHF 900,000 over three years, this initiative seeks to empower individuals and communities through sustainable, rights-based approaches.
Why Chad?
Chad faces severe socio-economic challenges, including:
Poverty and Inequality: Over 64% of the population lives below the poverty line, with stark disparities in access to education, land, and resources—particularly for women.
Gender Inequities: Women face patriarchal norms that restrict access to land, education, and decision-making power. Chad also has one of the highest rates of child marriage globally, with 67% of girls married before the age of 18.
Vulnerable Communities: Refugees and returnees face restricted mobility, limited access to natural resources, and socio-economic exclusion.
This project aims to address these challenges through targeted interventions that improve livelihoods, promote gender equality, and foster resilience in vulnerable communities.
